Work continues up near Williams, everyday I’m up north I’m reminded how grateful I am to be able to build this project. Summertime has been incredibly beautiful, sunny and highs in the 80’s everyday. I worked on the shower plumbing and building a built-in shower bench. Bathroom progress yesterday was epic, I hung most of the drywall in the bathroom. I doubled up the elevated deck with half inch plywood and a ton of liquid nails. I reworked the plumbing again to swap the inlet and outlet of the hot water heater and tested out the flow on a new pump setup! People tell me all the time, I must be so lucky or it would be nice if I was like you…and I always think, we are all the same, the biggest difference is in your ability to be honest with yourself. I had a look in the mirror, working on this project and I realized that YouTube had all the tutorials you could ever watch to learn any trade. So our only limitations are self imposed. I am not too good to try something new, to be a beginner. I love it, love being a noob trying to figure out what makes the pros good at something. Most times it’s repetitions or at bats. Long story short I am not a plumbing expert but after building an off grid, solar water heater and functioning bathroom sink, I definitely am qualified to work in plumbing! #build #learn #grow #diy #glamping #outdoorshowerdesign #views #solarshower

It’s amazing how things go when you bring in extra man power 💪🏼 💪🏼 💪🏼 the Universe is definitely aligned, I put a post on Facebook group for Ash Fork neighbors, looking for a welder to weld a flange on my windmill boom arm. Turns out Tim Yorbst’s wife saw the post and he was on vacation. Turns out I can see his property from mine! He ended up welding the flange, and had a great idea to extend the boom to 16’ for more power. He got that welded up and then we tackled hauling the 250 pound Solar water heater up to the shower. Then Tim had a genius idea, what if we put it on top of the bathroom? It was the perfect solution, now we have the heater up off the ground, and it’s got sun contact until late in the afternoon, and makes an awning for the bathroom too! It’s basically a giant radiator soaking up heat in the copper pipes inside. I’ll plumb it up this weekend and we should have unlimited heated showers without much power! Work on the Homestead continues, we got our framing supplies for the bathroom, I poured my 4th coat of cement underlayment, installed the @meetlockly deadbolt and cleaned up the jobsite. I built @hummer_homestead to get away from city life. Away from smog; traffic, light pollution, and dense populations. It’s just over two hour drive from Phoenix, and yet an hour from the Grand Canyon. We are a 5 acre property with over a mile of walking trails with panoramic Mountain Views of Bill Williams Mountain, and we are 3 miles off Old Route 66, AND 2 miles away from Kaibab National Forest. To say I found a hidden gem of raw land would be an understatement. The first time I saw this land I had my first vision of my grandkids hanging out together here, talking about their crazy grandparents that built this with their work and sweat. Huge progress at Hummer Homestead! The shower gate got assembled, I ordered a self-locking latch for the gate. We need more insulation and self leveling cement to finish the Bucky Suite before it gets waterproof vinyl floors and the stove installed.
